Dear Franklin CUSD #1 Students, Families, and Community Members,

We would like to share an important update regarding the leadership of our school district. Mr. Waggener, our dedicated Superintendent, has officially announced his retirement at the conclusion of the 2025–2026 school year. The Franklin Board of Education extends its deepest gratitude for his eight years of steadfast service, leadership, and commitment to the Franklin community. We wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.

As we look ahead, the Board of Education is committed to ensuring a smooth and thoughtful transition. To guide us through the search for our next superintendent, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Curtis Simonson, Ed.D., has been selected to lead the search process.

Dr. Simonson brings an extraordinary depth of experience to this role, with 48 years in education as a classroom teacher, coach, building principal, and district superintendent. Many in our community will remember Dr. Simonson’s impactful tenure as interim superintendent of Franklin CUSD #1 from 2018 to 2020. His familiarity with our district and his longstanding dedication to educational excellence make him uniquely qualified to help us identify a candidate who will continue to move Franklin CUSD #1 forward.

The timeline for our superintendent search is as follows:

  • September 8, 2025: A flyer advertising the superintendent opening will be posted.

  • October 31, 2025: Application period closes

  • November 19, 2025: Board of Education will conduct interviews.

  • December 19, 2025: Anticipated announcement of the new superintendent

We are confident that, with Dr. Simonson’s leadership and the support of our community, this process will result in the selection of a visionary and capable leader for our district’s future.

Thank you for your continued support of Franklin CUSD #1.

Warm regards,

Ryan Colwell, President
