Process
To accomplish the task, you will need to do the following things:
- Select a partner and have the partnership approved by Mrs. Bassi
- Participate in the class discussion on Washington Irving and "The Devil and Tom Walker"
- Go to the Internet and examine the following sites about Washington Irving and "The Devil and Tom Walker":

- Find examples in the story of the main characteristics of Tall Tales--link to the handout and complete it.
- Discover what an Urban Legend is all about by:
- Going to the following site and selecting an Urban Legend to read: http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/horrors
- Going to the following site and discovering how Urban Legends work: http://science.howstuffworks.com/urban-legend1.htm
- Answer these questions with your partner:
- In what ways are Urban Legends and Folk Tales similar?
- How\Why do Urban Legends become so popular and well-known
- Watch Mrs. Bassi's Legend.
- Select a topic for your tall tale video. It can be anything about which you can create a tall tale. For example, Mr. Smith is actually Elvis reincarnated, what causes our school to have that "smell," what lives under the school --if you go through the hole in the floor in Mrs. Engelbrecht's room, you might find out, what Mr. Hershfelt does on his b-days, why you really can't go behind Mrs. White's desk, etc., etc., etc.

- Learn how to use Microsoft MovieMaker. Class instruction will be given. You can also use the following links for additional help adn review:

- Make your movie -- be sure to review the task and evaluation to make sure you have all of the components
- be at least 2 minutes in length
- have video, music/sound, pictures
- use the setting of Franklin CUSD 1
- use exaggerations
- have a main character with a problem to solve
- have a main character who is bigger than life and have superhuman abilities
- have a plot that is funny and impossible
- in the end, have a main character who solves a problme, overcomes an obstacle and/or defeats a "bad guy"
- have lots of action
