ACCOUNTING I at Waverly

Students learn the fundamentals and apply them in service and merchandising companies under sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporations.

This senior level course is designed for Accounting I students who did well and who are interested in going to college to pursue any business field. The text emphasizes cooperated accounting and introduces cost accounting.

This course teaches students the basic skills of keyboarding (alphabetic, numeric, and special characters). Techniques will be stressed to help the student achieve the highest performance. This course is designed to further explore use and applications of computers. The course will include: business and personal correspondence and simple reports. Students will be introduced to application software as used in the business field. Students will also receive instruction in communicating with the computer, learning the types of peripheral equipment, and what they can do in the world of work.

Keyboarding and formatting skills for business, as well as personal use, are a must in today's world. An elective everyone should select!

YEARBOOK I

This course will introduce students to the basic computer graphic layout procedures that will lead to the construction of a yearbook. Students will develop skills in public relations, graphic design, budgeting, meeting deadlines, selling ads, taking photographs,writing copy and proofreading.

PERSONAL BUSINESS LAW at Waverly

Credits: 1 unit

Students will be introduced to the law and how it affects everyone through presentations, the interaction of cooperative group learning, and class participation. Field trips, outside speakers, and videos will add variety. The course content will include legal topics such as crime, ethics, marriage, divorce, buying a car, renting or buying a home, insurance, personal finances, starting a business, getting a job, contracts, warranties, restorement,wills and torts.

A hands-on class in a computer lab setting with students working on spreadsheets, databases, graphic presentation, and more advanced word processing. Students will create and enhance spreadsheets using formulas and functions. Databases will be used to organize and sort information. Advanced word processing enhancements are included. Presentation software will be used to create visual displays with enhanced presentations.

CONSUMER EDUCATION

The course includes instructions in the area of consumer education, including but not necessarily limited to American economy, consumer rights, income taxes, budgeting, banking services, saving and investing, credit, transportation, housing,health and life insurance.

Co-Op Class (Cooperative Education)

Length of course: 2 semesters
Credit: 1 unit for classroom portion

Co-Op class is open to any high school student, but is required for the student in the work experience program. The course covers career awareness, exploration, and employability skills. Students will also practice skills to maintain jobs. Students will complete a portfolio in class that may be used for Lincoln Land Community College credit (an Employability test must also be taken)

Work Experience

Length of course: 2 semesters
Credit: 2 units for work experience

This course is limited to Juniors (if space is available) or Seniors who are interested in on the job training. Students learn basic employability skills and specific skills at their job site. Students obtain jobs prior to the school year, which must be approved by the instructor. Students report their weekly tasks and are evaluated by the employer/supervisor and instructor each nine weeks. Students must attend the Co-Op class. Students are released from school and then report to their work site.

Requirements:

1. Students must be juniors (if space available) or a senior
2.Apply for the program in the spring by the deadline (see instructor)

3. Prior to the start of school, obtain a job that will be approved by the instructor.
4. Be on the job for a minimum of two hours each school day.
5. Attend related Co-Op Class.
6. Provide own transportation to work.
7. Complete all forms and documents.
