Write your review here: Wuthering Heights is an amazing and intriguing book about the power of passion, love, and two people who where meant to be everything to one another. Mr. Heathcliff is the main character in this novel. He is everything he should be. He makes you dislike, even hate him occasionally, but all of that doesn’t make a difference when you come to realize that all of what he is, is a product of his love for Catherine. The love that Catherine and Heathcliff share is not the kind of love that most envision along with a happy life and chubby children running around. Their love is deep and true but is not ruled purely by emotion and “feelings”. It is shown to readers as being fueled by their own selfishness, what I mean, is that by reading the book, you may almost think every once in awhile that they hate each other, but if you look closely, you realize that everything each one of them does is because of or for the other. Their love is a kind not understood by most because it seems entirely too twisted, and perhaps it is, but there is not denying the beauty of their love no matter what the consequences were. In truth, they share the love that we all want, but don’t care to realize and the kind of devotion that people nowadays have only come to expect from a dog. The reason why their sentiments seem so twisted is because they aren’t trying to hide anything about themselves, to each other or other people. Not saying that they don’t truly have problems, they do, but it’s amazingly beautiful to see what the entwining of two lives can lead to and cause to happen. I think we can all learn a lot about human nature from this book, the nature that lies under the forced civilization of society, but which seems to take over when “love” is involved, be it true love, or love that exists solely in one’s mind. It also might make people more aware of what can happen if love is expressed in a selfish way. I love this book because it seems to capture everything that scares civilized people with regards to love: passion, devotion, dying for love, living for love, killing for love. And in the end the only thing left is a simple question: Do you think it was worth it?
