I recommend this book because if you are an animal lover, you’ll really like it. I liked the book because I like to read about animals. The book is really fun to read because Jack London knew how to describe how you think an animal would act very thoroughly. He said what the main character, or actually animal since it was about a wolf, would act like and what he thought. He knew some things about philosophy and could describe very well of how the animals saw life, and what they thought their meaning was.
White Fang is about a wolf that is born in a time of famine for the wilderness in northern Canada. Even though the story doesn’t start out with White Fang, it does start out with his mother. White Fang is then caught and passes from owner to owner. Some of the owners don’t treat him like an animal should be treated and therefore results in a hard life for him. But he does find a better life in the end.
My favorite character was White Fang’s mother, the shewolf, because Jack London described her so well. The way he said that her fur would get a slight hue of a reddish color when she moved a certain way in the sun sounded so beautiful. Plus, there is the fact that I love wolves.
The setting of the book is in the cold northern wilderness of North America. In the beginning of the book, the setting is in a forest of spruce trees during the worst part of the winter. But as the book goes on, the settings change to towns and settlements where sleds are drawn by dogs and trading is a big part.
My favorite part of the book is the ending, because it is a really good one. I can’t really tell you much about it because it would spoil the whole story.
I learned that the life of a sled dog and the life of a half wolf breed wasn’t exactly the prettiest picture…
