The Story of Martin Luther King

  • The story of Martin Luther King began with a black woman name Rosa Park. She lived in Montgomery, Alabama. She refused to give up her bus seat to a white man. She was arrested and taken to jail. The next day she met a black church leader. They started a boycott. They told all the black people to not ride the buses. The following morning the buses past Martin’s house and they were empty. The buses were usually packed with black people. The black people walk, rode horses or hitched rides to work. Martin and other black people went into white only restaurants, stores, and libraries and sat on white only benches. Some white people became violent and bombed the churches of black people. Birmingham, Alabama was one of the last cities that had tough opposition to segregation. The Governor and Police Chief stopped Martin and his protesters. Many were arrested; some were bitten by police dogs, or sprayed by fire hoses. Martin tried hard to make the white people understand what it was like to be black. One woman stabbed him at a book signing. In 1963 Civil rights people marched in Washington. They had nearly a quarter of a million people. Martin and his protestors where trying to stop segregation peacefully. My favorite character in the story was Rosa Parks. She was not afraid of other people telling her what to do. I like how she says that she was not going to give up her seat. I think it was a good book because the blacks should have the same rights as us. They should not have different laws than us.My favorite part of the book is when she says that she is not going to give up her seat. Than another part is when she went to the church leader and told him want happen to her. Then they told them to not ride the buses and start boycott.
