                   Introduction to Word Processing

Summary-Children are being introduced to the computers in our classroom.  Children will be asked to type their name and spelling words on to the computer as well as recognize certain parts of the computer.

 

Objective-After completion of the activities children will be able to type their name and spelling words on the computer using Microsoft Word.  They will then be able to print their list on the accompanying printer. They will also be able to match pictures of computer parts with the word that names the part.

 

Materials-classroom computer with Microsoft Word, spelling list, pictures of computer parts, word cards for computer parts, worksheet for assessment of names of computer parts

 

Activities: Children will be given a one to one demonstration of typing in Word , the use of spaces and capitals, correcting of mistakes, and printing the page.

 

Assessment-Children will type their spelling words and print them out with minimal help, and successfully complete the matching on the computer parts worksheet.

 

Approximate Time-It will take a few days for the one to one instruction on Word.   We will study the parts of a computer for several days.
