Grade Level 1- Although written for first grade,
the lesson is easily adaptable by using pictures that contain the geometric
solids appropriate for the grade level.
Purpose: After the lesson children will be able to
identify the geometric solids sphere, cone, and cylinder.
Activities: Children will be viewing a slide show
made from digital camera pictures, and attempting to identify the geometric
solid found in the picture. For
example: The silo is an example of a cylinder.
Materials: I will first use our models of
geometric solids for the introduction and then move on to the slide show. Pictures will be taken with a digital
camera.
Assessment: Children will be asked to bring their
own example of geometric solids to class.
This can be in the form of a picture or the actual solid itself. For example, a basketball. We will also complete several follow up
worksheets in math containing questions that have to do with the solids.
Approximate time for presenting the lesson:
45 minutes.
