Designing a “Healthy
Quote”Poster

Purpose: Help students research, choose, design and present to the class a poster emphasizing a Health related message.
Unit: Stress and How to Handle It
Student
Outcome:
1.
Students
will discuss and use resources (books supplied and inter-
net sites) to help choose a quote.
2.
Students
will use the Publisher 2000 program to design a poster
(one displayed in the classroom and one to be taken
home with the
Student).
3.
Student
will explain why they choose the quote and the health sig-
nificance it has to their life.
Materials:
1.
Books
with quotations
2.
Internet
sites with quotations
3.
Computer
for each student
4.
Examples
of teacher made posters
Time:
1.
10
minutes to choose quote
2.
40 minutes to design poster
3.
30 minutes to print & laminate poster
Method:
1. Show class several books on various quotations. Have some
sites
listed on paper of various search engines they can go to
find different quotes.
Explain to the class they will be looking
for a quote that is associated with health (metal health,
phys-
cal health or social health)
2.
Show
class some posters that have been developed by teacher
that illustrates various
health related messages.
3.
Proceed
to the computer lab & demonstrate how to use Publisher 2000 in the most
effective method.
4.
Students
begin making their poster. When they
have comple-
ted one they may work on
other poster ideas.

22B: Give examples of health-related
advertisements.

22C: Compare healthy and unhealthy environments.
3.
23A: Portray how the systems all have an impact
on one another in a positive or negative way.
Students will present their poster to the class and discuss why they
choose the idea, how it relates to making good health choices, and
how they made the poster.
