Room Arrangement:

Students will be facing the large whiteboard for review.

Students will divide up into two teams (based on assigned number) and stand on either side of the room facing each other.
Procedures:
Whole class will review the parts of speech. Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverbs, Pronouns.
Teacher will record information on the board in a graphic organizer as students volunteer information.
Teacher will then distribute a worksheet for students to identify parts of speech in ten prepared sentences.
Allow 10 minutes to complete the worksheet and 5 minutes to review answers.
Students will then number off 1 – 2 to divide into two teams to play a game of identifying the parts of speech.
The Game:
Teacher will announce to the first student one part of speech. (Noun)
That student will then have 5 seconds to name a noun. If the student is unsuccessful in providing a “noun” or exceeds the five seconds then they must sit down and the request goes to the next person on the team. If successful, that student requests the first student on the other team to identify one of the parts of speech within a 5 second time frame. This continues back and forth until one student is left standing. The team with one member left standing is declared the champions of that match. A re-match may be arranged if time allows for another game.
Evaluation:
Students will successfully name the five basic parts of speech.
After identifying the five basic parts of speech, students will be able to brainstorm words from each part of speech and correctly place them in a graphic organizer on the board where teacher will record.
Students will be able to complete a worksheet identifying the parts of speech.
As a follow-up Activity, Students will participate in a game to name the parts of speech.
