Franklin TLA – Paula McMillin – Lesson Plan #2

 

 

 

Purpose:  Acquaint students with tonal characteristics of various instruments.

 

Unit:  Five Elements of Music

 

Theme: Tone Color (timbre)

 

Objectives/Standards: 26 A 2c:  classify music sound sources into groups

 

Activities:  Students will use computer lab to listen to and analyze different instruments.

 

Materials: CD ROM – Printed worksheet – Indiv. Headphones for listening

 

Resources:  Computer Lab – Microsoft CD ROM – Musical Instruments

 

Time: 4 – 30 minutes time periods

 

Procedure:  Students will identify and listen to representative instruments for m each musical family.  They will be given a list of instruments that are required and an optional list if time permits.  Each student will write a paragraph describing the overall general sound of the family of instruments.

 

Assessment/Evaluation:  Students will successfully be able to distinguish the sound characteristics of each family of instruments.
