(Students may need to click on more than one site for activity pages used>)

Time:  approximately one hour

Students will begin activity by reviewing vocabulary for part of plant- pistil, stamen, stem, leaf, root,   (write words on board for students to copy.)  Discuss dictionary skills and use the initial letter to find words.  Allow students time to write words and definitions.

In classrooms with limited Internet access, allow small groups to go to the Internet site listed above.  As they access the site, they can work on the dictionary activity page, then rotate with other students doing dictionary seatwork.

As students finish the written seatwork and activity pages, they may gather glue, pipe cleaners, and tissue paper to make flower models.

This lesson is a lead-in to a greenhouse experience.  Students will have hands on experience in a small greenhouse with various plants.  We will be examining plant growth under certain conditions (e.g. soil types, moisture, etc.)

They will further have the experience of discussing and testing photosynthesis on different plants.
